Peter Gabriel - Sledge Hammer. - link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqyc37aOqT0
In this music video stop-motion is used frequently. - for example At the beginning of the video an extreme close-up is used but to distinguish his facial features, the video is aware of itself as a product as it is reflecting and using the conventions of a music video to portray Peter Gabriel as a celebrity.
Using stop motion means that a lot of editing is to be used. The music video is edited to fit the beat and the stop motion which presents strong imagery to the audience, Also the lyrics match the imagery which can be quite overwhelming for the audience.
The music video uses a montage technique in order to present information and dosn't follow the normal linear narrative.
In my music video i would like to use stop-motion to represent it as quirky.
Qwen Stefani - What you waiting for? -link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdcObAQ5OOM&ob=av3e
In this music video Qwen stefani inter textually references 'Alice in Wonderland.'
The music video achieves this by using the codes and conventions. Also dressing the celebrity as 'Alice' the audience automatically know what is being referenced.
Throughout the music video a range of camera angles are used. Like the other music videos i have analysed 'Close-ups' are used to achieve voyeuristic pleasure. At a particular point in the video 'Qwen' is inside of a house but she has grown, just like a scene from 'Alice in wonderland' I like the idea of the quirky dress and shoes, The mise-en-scene of this video is similar to what i wish to achieve.
like my music video idea the music video has regular intervals which focus on the star 'Qwen' dressed casually and singing. (Abnormally to what you would expect from a star) - i think this achieves a different look on Qwen Stefani as the audience can relate to her as being similar. This achieves marketing and more fans. From this clip Qwen Stefani has turned into a consumerist product.
The video uses a linear structure as Qwen goes through the same story as 'Alice' The main thing that stands out about this song is that it is fast paced and the cuts of the editing follow the beat.

Newton Faulkner- dream catch me -link -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVW_7ZY8K3I&ob=av2n
Newton Faulkner provides voyeuristic pleasure in his music video through the use of cinematography. Close-ups especially extreme close-ups are used throughout the video which is what I want to achieve as the audience actually get to see the celebrity in close detail.
The fact that Newton is dressed casually really reaches out to the audience and says ‘I’m just like you’. However, the music video has verisimilitude. When people try to interact with other people in the music video it doesn’t work. for instance – a man tries to take a newspaper of someone who is stationary and can’t. But before this everyone was equal. The disruption is that the man can’t get the newspaper. Newton then sings about the quest ‘Dream catch me’ and a re-equilibrium is established. When the man eventually drops the newspaper is effects other peoples lives. For example – a taxi driver is unfrozen and walks off without excepting his passengers money, this reflects everyday society as we know it because of how much of a money grabbing consumerist society we really are.
I find this music video entertaining purely because of its ideology.
Talking heads - once in a lifetime -link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1wg1DNHbNU
David Byrne is the lead singer of the talking heads and is represented in this video as a strange person wearing a suit.
He interacts with the audience by talking to the camera, the use of stop motion make it entertaining for the audience. The music video has great visuals as when the lyrics say certain words images appear such as 'House' a picture of a house appears. I like this idea as it becomes obvious to the audience your message which you are trying to get across.
The music video in general especially the lyrics say look at me, the music used to be a one of a kind.
the reason i analysed this music video is because it is aware of its presence. When David floats along the look alike water he pops up on the next set wet, which i think really reflects society as everyday human beings.
